"In the span of a week, federal court panels struck down three key voting-related efforts in Texas and Ohio, even as South Carolina argued its case for a new voter ID law to a federal appeals panel in Washington. So far, the only ruling that has backed up mostly Republican efforts to create tougher voting rules came from a state judge in Pennsylvania, who two weeks ago ruled that the Keystone State’s new voter ID law should apply in November. (The Pennsylvania stateSupreme Court will hear an appeal on Sept. 13.)"

Voting is the most fundamental right we have in the U.S. What the Rethuglican party has been doing with voter ID laws is beyond shameful, it is outright illegal and unconstitutional in this lawyer's opinion. It is not a close call - any judge who sides with voter suppression efforts does not have the competence or integrity to sit in judgement of anything.

From where I sit as a former prosecutor, I see many potential federal conspiracy charges of State officials and Rethuglican apparatchiks for conspiring to deprive people of color their right to vote. See 42 USC § 1985 - Conspiracy to interfere with civil rights. If we had an honest Justice Department with stones, maybe we'd see some investigations...but we don't. The best we can hope for is getting these racist absurdities of "law" struck down. - Wes
