-- This is serious talk, but I take it rather as a sign of overall deterioration in U.S. strategic positions around the world. What is difficult to fathom is why the hugely expensive missile defense shield is important or even necessary. This is not the late 1980s when the U.S. could outspend the Soviet Union after having driven oil down to $18 a barrel, thus wiping out Soviet foreign exchange and bankrupting the USSR. It's more the other way around now.
A U.S./Israeli attack on Iran has been prevented. But the human race's nuclear death wish has not been exorcised. We cannot rest on our laurels and finding sense in this is -- as the writer says clearly -- out of reach. -- MCR
