Rising diesel prices driving truckers crazy

-- The pain over diesel is serious. As we have been documenting for a year on the World News Desk, diesel shortages are being caused by collapse. That's because in countries like Nigeria there is no grid and growth requires more diesel generators for electricity. In India and Pakistan, where the grid is failing miserably, diesel generators are replacing what used to be produced by vanishing coal, hydro or natural gas. The Taj Majal uses 60,000 (that is not a typo) diesel generators to keep it lit during ever more frequent blackouts. And poor Japan is guzzling diesel to replace the loss of its nuclear generation and to keep the still-uncontrolled reactors at Fukushima cool. No wonder there's a diesel shortage. -- MCR
