"The Counter-Electronics High Power Microwave Advanced Missile Project (CHAMP), led by Boeing's Phantom works, promised to change the face of contemporary warfare, and its test was a complete success.
CHAMP flew over the Utah Test and Training Range last Tuesday, discharging a burst of High Power Microwaves onto the test site and brought down the compound's entire spectrum of electronic systems, apparently without producing any other damage at all. Even the camera recording the test was shut down."
This has HUGE implications. The U.S. gubberment now has the power of a focused EMP weapon to selectively shut off any adversary's electronics and electrical power. Let me repeat, ANY adversary.
How soon will it be before they use this technology domestically to shut down voices they don't want to be heard, such as at last year's Occupy protests? Just imagine, one pass by Zuccotti Park with this equipment and all smart phones, cell phones, video cameras, laptops - EVERYTHING - wiped out instantly, leaving people completely offline and unable to communicate. Or take video of what would come next, the Police thuggery.
This is super-scary technology in the digital age. It will be no doubt be abused. - Wes
