The Washington Times: The Civil War of 2016
In an article which appeared in the Small Arms Journal; entitled, “Full Spectrum Operations in the Homeland: A ‘Vision’ of the Future.” A cartoonish scenario was posited where an “extremist militia motivated by the goals of the ‘tea party’ movement” seizes control of Darlington, S.C., in 2016. Occupying City Hall, disbanding the city council and placing the mayor under house arrest.” The rebels then set up checkpoints on Interstate 95 and Interstate 20 looking for illegal aliens.
The article's authors write bloodlessly that “once it is put into play, Americans will expect the military to execute without pause and as professionally as if it were acting overseas.” They claim that “the Army cannot disappoint the American people, especially in such a moment,” not pausing to consider that using such efficient, deadly force against U.S. citizens would create a monumental political backlash and severely erode government legitimacy.

Vice: America's Military Is About to Get Skinny
Soldiers in the western world are now disturbingly fat. Germany wallowed in disgrace as news went viral that its army was too tubby (and drunk) to tussle with Taliban troops. Just two-thirds of British grunts pass muster. And, of course, no one will be shocked to learn that the US is having trouble finding people who aren’t too obese to be in the Army—and once they are enlisted, the Army has to teach them about basic nutrition.
But the most bloated body of all doesn’t belong to any single uniform-popping individual. It’s the American defense budget, which the US drags laboriously from fiscal year to fiscal year like a hundred-pound scrotum.

The Washington Post: Hansen Op-Ed: "Climate change is here — and worse than we thought"
"When I testified before the Senate in the hot summer of 1988 , I warned of the kind of future that climate change would bring to us and our planet. I painted a grim picture of the consequences of steadily increasing temperatures, driven by mankind’s use of fossil fuels. But I have a confession to make: I was too optimistic. ... our analysis shows that, for the extreme hot weather of the recent past, there is virtually no explanation other than climate change. ..."

The Market Oracle: U.S. Military War Gaming for Large Scale Economic Breakdown and Civil Unrest
The recovery - if our government, the Federal Reserve and mainstream media are to be believed - is on the road to recovery - albeit slowly and with some more pain ahead.
If we’ve “prevented economic collapse” and “avoided the depression many feared,” according to President Obama, inquiring minds are asking why the Pentagon and US Military are actively and aggressively engaged in planning responsive action to large scale economic breakdown and civil unrest scenarios:
