I don't suppose this is the place for philosphical argument. Suffice it to say that I ascribe to (but don't always follow) Jesus' teachings. Having said that, I think Jesus' movement was co-opted by Constantine and the Romans and the Christian religion as practiced today is false. While some of the source material is good, the Bible is a flawed document, adulterated in places, and as a result of exclusion elsewhere. Call it luck, call it grace or mercy, whatever the case, we're going to need it, and that element may prove more important than any preps you can make.

I would have to agree with Cowboy. There's never been much about Christianity that breeds hope in me. Too much bowing, too much asking of 'Something' else to provide/fix for you. The blinders are huge for most 'Christians', almost none of them even come close to following the doctrine they hold so dear. Most of them are still asleep, or waiting for the 'Rapture'. You have NO idea how much I've heard that while talking to people here. God will just take them away when it gets bad? The things people will believe! Back to the topic... I feel it building. Same as you, a rubber band, twisting every day. Has to snap, probably sooner, rather than later. I'm no-where near as prepared as you, and I'm certainly feeling it. Good luck, we're all gonna need at least a little.

Each to his own. Jesus was beaten and crucified and promised no better for those that follow his ways. I make cheese I can't sell. Produce people won't buy. I have more than I can possibly use. The day will come when the store you depend on has no food, the lights won't come on when you flip the switch, and there will be no fuel for your car. You will be surrounded by misery. It's like having a higher vantage point than most and watching a herd of people move toward a cliff, happy and gay, unaware of the fact that they will soon fall over the edge. I renounce and denounce the prosperity doctrine so often taught in modern Christian churches.

Stick with it, my friend, and see the beauty in it! Ruppert has said, "The more I do it, the better it feels." I feel the same way-I'm loving every minute of my slow, feeble attempts at creating a suburban homestead. I know its not perfect, but that all gets back to God again and trusting in Him. I don't mean to offend people, but I just can't speak in any other terms, for I am of one fiber with my Creator and I just can't separate Him from anything I say or do. This is the prism through which I see all reality. And I am profoundly happy. There is no nightmare for me. Also, community is essential and I've been working really hard at that lately-networking and making friends. Its all good!

At the moment, the problem isn't feeding people. They are trained to look for food in a store, packaged and ready to eat, if not, then in a styrofoam box at a quick-food restaurant. Many receive free (subsidized) food. Even food pantries further the notion that food is free. The overwhelming majority of the food in food pantries does not come from small gardens, but instead is spoiling food from the industrial chains (overproduction ). It costs more to grow my own food than it does to buy it from an industrial food chain. All of this disincentivises people from learning how to grow and preserve their own food. And will make the situation all the more dire when the industrial food model fails. I persist with the homegrown habit, nonetheless, but it isn't easy. Most think me crazy. This is my nightmare. Worse. The reality I face, each and every day.

Hello unrepentant You can't feed them all. In fact if you start feeding any, you're likely to get the lot coming at you like a scene from "Dawn of the dead". I'm a bit envious. I have my doomstead in the right place and although my wife is getting onboard it's still a big jump for her to make. I have several months food stored both here and in the doomstead but it will be awfully monotonous. I'm a teacher and we go there every holidays and have made good friends. I don't feel prepared, but I am infinitely more prepared than I was 4 years ago when I learnt about peak oil from FTW. I knew something was happening and wanted to become self sufficient but when I read about peak oil everything fell into place. I hope things don't collapse precipitously and there is enough warning for us all to get to the doomstead. I live inthe UK, my doomstead is in Spain and my wife would hate sailing. My daughter has just been told she has to go to work in New York at least for a while. That's a big worry. Hopefully the impetus of our economy will keep everything going for a while and it will become obvious even to my wife that we have to go. All the best to everyone Andy

Hi to all (with special notice to unrepentent and florence), All is indeed not well. The big question is for how long does the inertia of our massive global economic system maintain the illusion that collapse and contraction are not already well under way. Is it a quarter? A year, 5, 10? As someone who makes his living analyzing and planning that is the biggest challenge in my mind. Can't pull the trigger too soon on departing the current paradigm but I don't want to have to leap overboard at the last second either. In the interim connecting the dots and preparing seem the best path to tread. I have to lend a gentle admonition to the comments florence made about needing god (sorry but I can't bring myself to capitalize that word). What I think we need is for all humans to start acting with a greater level of goodness and kindness and a commitment to becoming both self-sufficient and better community members. Personally I don't need a voice from beyond to tell me what the right things to do are whether that be with respect to how I treat my family, my neighbors, my employees, strangers, non-humans or the world as a whole. I believe we all possess an innate sense of "the right" and simply need to practice it. Of course, I value and respect others right to believe as they see fit, even when those beliefs are vastly different than my own. Keep doing good, regardless of what motivates you to do it.

I just looked up that book-by Jonathan Cahn, right? Looks absolutely fascinating-I am definitely checking that out-thanks! Just came across this quote by a nun, Mother Marie Des Douleurs (Of Sufferings), which speaks perfectly of what I was saying (unfortunately, its from a book which is out of print): "Let us no longer dread all sorts of impressions and sensations. We know we can be courageous despite all that, and that courage consists not in ceasing to feel but in self-conquest...To become little by little our own masters, no longer to be tugged by a bundle of feelings which drags us along and leaves us disordered as by a panic. No, to know where we are going; to recognize the fact that it is not fun, but not to stop because of that; to accustom our reason to making decisions and our will to accomplishing the decisions of our reason; and to accustom our will to move only in the wake of the will of God...This is what, little by little, will make us into those calm, magnanimous beings, capable of progress and useful to others, that we can and should become..."

I personally agree with you Florence. The problem I see here in the US is people's failure to see and understand the condition we're in. If you're of a prophetic bent, I'd suggest a book, dealing more with past events than future called the harbinger. The hope is survival of a remnant and rebirth. Saving this country as we have known it... In my opinion, that falls into the category of false hope. Concerning the harbinger, by extrapolating, we probably have another couple of years of failed attempts at revival (defiance), until the next catastrophic event in 2015. Best prepare for the long haul.
