I am an expert on guns. I shot my first rifle when I was five years old. I grew up learning to shoot and to hunt responsibly, scoring a perfect 100% in the required gun safety class when I was in the eighth grade. I have owned guns since I was 12. I was company high-shooter in Marine Corps boot camp. I am a former state prosecutor who was deputized and qualified to carry a handgun, even in the courthouse. I shot handguns better than all but two deputies in the county where I worked. I have had concealed weapons permits in two states and have frequently carried a concealed weapon. I own so-called assault rifles and handguns, and I have fired virtually every caliber weapon commonly used in civilian and military applications – everything from a Ruger 10-22 to an M-16, AK-47’s and SKS’s, M-60 machine guns, Tommy guns, MP-9’s, Squad Automatic Weapons (SAW), even an M203 grenade launcher. I know guns.

Part I – Bright Eyes, Big Delusions

I started writing this article at least a dozen times and kept getting circled back to lawyer jokes or clichés about the legal profession. It’s hard not to. I finally realized that what I want to say about attorneys has more to do with demonstrating why those clichés are so ubiquitous, why they resonate across all demographics, including lawyers. Not the “why” asking if the punch-lines are true, because they might as well be gospel, but rather how far the profession has strayed from its own ethics and from its essential role in a democracy.

This is a story about how Wesley Miller accidentally erased 2 years’ worth of CollapseNet’s valuable website traffic and analytical data from Google Analytics. Not me, but another Wesley Miller. And Google let it happen, with no remorse, no recourse and no restitution short of a lawsuit.

Many very credible sources are talking plainly about the single greatest and very real threat to human existence that we have ever faced -- FUKUSHIMA. It’s happening right now and we have the chance to save our own lives, yet our governments are silent and this Armageddon scenario is being denied coverage by virtually every “mainstream” media outlet.
